The engineering works

Space Engineering Services

The brief

When Space Cooling Systems came to us they had nothing. Well, nothing in terms of marketing and design. The company brochure was a word document that listed their address and their industry accreditations and qualifications. That was it.  So they needed everything. A new brand identity, digital presence, B2B corporate literature. The engineering works.

We don’t know...

In the pitch we decided to take a radical approach. When we were asked what our recommendations were – should they change their name, change their logo – we said we didn’t know. Not a clue. The silence that followed was probably only about 10 seconds, but felt a lot longer. We simply didn’t know enough about their business to make recommendations that would cost them tens of thousands of pounds. To do so would have been irresponsible. We advocated a period of research.

Research

We ran focus groups at their offices all over the country – from Plymouth to Neath, Soham to Kirkintilloch. There had been a lot of change in the business. It was time to find out what people were thinking. How they felt about Space. Why they worked there and not for one of their rivals. Only then could we tell the management what we thought that they should do.

Over the next month, we conducted 25 in depth interviews with key management figures. We ran 8 focus groups. In total we talked to over 15% of the company. We then ran a brand away day wherein we presented the findings and worked with the management to agree a new brand vision, mission, positioning and personality. Only when we had done all of this did we turn our attention to design and marketing materials.

The works

When we did however, we did everything for them – new website with full customised CMS and extranet, screensavers, wallpapers, new print brochures and newsletters, advertising, direct mail,  staff uniform design, service and maintenance van design, office signage and in the language of our sector – much, much more!

So Space Cooling Systems became Space Engineering Services. We continue to provide them with complete full service design and marketing support. Space continue to grow and be successful. We like to think that as far as possible, we’ve made their unglamorous sector look, well, as sexy as it could.

Since we have been working with Space Engineering they have been awarded ‘Beacon Company’ status, they have doubled in size, both in employee numbers and turnover.

“The team at G+V were instrumental in transforming all of our marketing ideas into a reality and in implementing a new brand identity for our company. New cutting edge website, extranet and marketing collateral has assisted us in successfully positioning ourselves as one of the most progressive and market leading companies of our kind. Their ability to respond so effectively to our marketing challenges with fresh and forward thinking ideas is remarkable and we look forward to a long and mutually prosperous partnership with them”.
